The Spanish Apartment a.k.a. Euro Pudding


Xavier (Romain Duris), seorang mahasiswa dari Paris, ingin mendapatkan pekerjaan di pemerintahan dan disarankan untuk menempuh kualifikasi di bidang ilmu ekonomi serta bahasa Spanyol. Mendapat dukungan dari ibunya, dan setelah melalui proses aplikasi untuk beasiswa, akhirnya ia mendapat kesempatan untuk menempuh perkuliahan di satu universitas di Barcelona, Spanyol, selama satu tahun. Martine (Audrey Tautou), sang kekasih, pun ia tinggalkan.

Sesampainya di Barcelona, ia mendapat tempat di suatu flat dan tinggal bersama mahasiswa2 lain dari penjuru Eropa: Belgia, Denmark, Inggris, Italia, Jerman, dan Spanyol (Castille). Hidup di antara mereka, Xavier mulai belajar karakter dari masing2 serta bahasa dan budaya negaranya (termasuk berbagai stereotip yang kadang benar dan kadang salah). Kadang timbul perselisihan, namun mereka sering terlihat kompak dan saling membantu.

Bagi Xavier, pengalaman di Barcelona adalah belajar untuk menjadi dewasa dan mencari tahu apa yang ia maui termasuk kehidupan cintanya. Kisah cintanya penuh kebimbangan, karena ketika jauh dari Martine, Xavier bermain api dengan istri dokter neurologis yang ia kenal sewaktu terbang ke Barcelona. Dan di akhir cerita, alih-alih bekerja di bidang pemerintahan, Xavier memilih mewujudkan cita-citanya menjadi seorang penulis. Kisahnya diteruskan dalam film sequel berjudul Les Poupées Russes en lagi dicari-cari neh..

Gomorrah

Film yang mengisahkan bagaimana bisnis kotor mafia Italia di kota Napoli dijalankan, berdasarkan buku non-fiksi yang ditulis oleh Roberto Saviano. Terdiri dari lima sub-plot, yang menurut saya ada 3 diantaranya yang menarik. Pertama, seorang terpelajar yang terperosok ikut bisnis pembuangan limbah (gelap), dua anak muda sok jagoan yang merasa jadi mafia, dan desainer/penjahit yang mencoba peruntungan menjadi 'supervisor' para penjahit Cina. 2 plot yang lain saya rasa kurang terlalu bisa dipahami, yakni mengenai anak remaja yang tertarik menjadi gang mafia, dan cerita tentang seorang yang menjadi perantara.

Palermo Shooting

Tidak terbayang bahwa judul Palermo Shooting ternyata cerita seorang fotografer yang mengunjungi Palermo, bukan cerita mengenai ajang perang senjata antar Mafia di kota Palermo :p

Kecewa, tentu saja. Dari harapan yang besar seperti itu, dan saya tidak bisa memahami jalan ceritanya, film ini tidak terlalu direkomendasikan bagi penggemar film pop. Mungkin lebih ke cerita misteri, dimana sang pemeran utama, Finn (Camino) merasa (atau mimpi?) di-panah oleh makhluk apapun itu bentuknya. Entahlah, bingung ceritanya hehehe..

Cerita dari awalnya menarik untuk diikuti, penuh misteri dan berbau 'science'. Emma kehilangan kekasihnya, François, yang lenyap tanpa memberi kabar dan meninggalkan jejak. Emma pun memulai perjalanan mencari François yang membawanya ke Michel, kakak François. Kisah pencarian ini juga melibatkan profesor fisika (apa hubungannya?) yang mengkuliahi ttg teori 'black hole' (???).

Di akhir cerita, Emma tahu kenapa sang kekasih bisa hilang tanpa jejak, karena hal itu juga terjadi pada Michel. Agak membingungkan memang :)

Lola (Franka Potente) hanya punya waktu 20 menit untuk mencari uang 100 ribu Mark Jerman sebelum kekasihnya Manny (Moritz Bleibtreu) merampok supermarket. Manny harus berbuat seperti itu karena dirinya sendiri juga berhutang kepada mafia dengan jumlah sebesar itu. Alhasil Lola pun harus berlari-lari terus mengejar waktu agar kekasihnya selamat. Seperti halnya kucing, Lola masih diberikan 'sembilan' nyawa untuk mencari solusi yang membuat mereka berdua sama-sama selamat. Lucu juga sih :)

Angélique (Audrey Tatou) seorang gadis cantik mahasiswa Seni yang jatuh cinta dengan lelaki yang sudah beristri. Kemudian kehidupan cintanya menjadi jatuh bangun karena sang pacar, Laic, seorang doktor jantung, tidak bisa memutuskan hubungan dengannya, apakah harus terus atau kembali ke istrinya.

Tidak dinyana film ini penuh dengan 'trick' yang tidak akan mudah bagi anda untuk menebak adegan selanjutnya. Pun, kekuatan film terletak bagaimana perspektif kita 'sengaja' digiring dari separuh awal film ini untuk bersimpati kepada Angelique dan berharap dia melupakan lelaki tersebut serta mencari kehidupan baru. Tapi bagaimana kalau kita melihat dari perspektif Laic?

MR 73

The Last Deadly Mission


Orang bilang, MR 73 merupakan bagian dari trilogi film polisi/kriminal besutan sutradara Olivier Marchal, dua yang lain adalah Gangsters dan 36 Quai de Orfévres. Namun film ini tidak berhubungan satu sama lain dalam cerita, lebih kepada si sutradara yang sama dan tema yang sama. Olivier Marchal dulunya memang seorang polisi sebelum beralih ke dunia seni.

Aktor utama diperankan apik oleh Daniel Auteuil (Caché, Mon Meilleur Ami) yang memerankan Schneider, seorang detektif yang tengah depresi dan menjadi alkoholik. Penyebabnya adalah kecelakaan yang menimpa keluarga sehingga anaknya mati dan istrinya harus dirawat dgn alat seperti ventilator (life-support machine?) ketika dia sedang berselingkuh dengan Marie, koleganya di kepolisian. Sementara itu, dia juga harus menghadapi atasan-nya sendiri, Kovalski, yang juga dekat dengan Marie. Kovalski juga menghalang-halangi upaya Schneider dalam investigasi kasus pembunuhan berantai.

Di sisi (plot) yang lain, berita pembebasan seorang pembunuh berantai, Subra, mengingatkan Justine akan trauma masa kecil ketika orangtua dibantai Subra.

Film ini, seperti film2 karya Marchal lain, bermain-main pada tema polisi yang payah di tengah-tengah 'kebrengsekan' kehidupan polisi. Namun MR 73 lebih digambarkan lebih pada sisi manusiawi, orang-orang yang ingin keluar dari depresi atau dari trauma akan masa lalu dengan cara mereka sendiri.

Disebutkan bahwa film ini berdasarkan kisah nyata, walaupun saya sendiri tidak terlalu mempercayainya.

Satu hal lagi, nama MR 73 adalah sebuah jenis pistol (handgun), yang ironisnya menjadi alat untuk membalas dendam dan mengakhiri film ini dengan "pantas".

Untuk membalaskan dendamnya atas kematian koleganya ketika misi pengintaian, Marek (Roschdy Zem), seorang detektif, ikut pelatihan khusus untuk menyamar, dan akhirnya menjadi pengantar narkoba dari Spanyol ke Prancis. Dengan mengendarai sebuah mobil, Marek harus pintar-pintar menghindari berbagai rintangan yang menghadang.

Sayang DVDB yang saya dapat subtitle Inggrisnya kurang bagus. Jadi cuman bisa menebak saja jalan ceritanya.

Caranya adalah menikah (seperti kawin kontrak) dengan orang Belgia, yang mana calonnya adalah Claudy, seorang pecandu narkoba. Padahal Lorna sudah punya kekasih sendiri asal Albania yang juga mempunyai rencana hidup sendiri. So bagaimana cara Lorna bisa mencapai cita-citanya?

Kisah penerbang "ace" Jerman Manfred von Richthofen dalam Perang Dunia pertama (1914-1918).
Agak menganggu dan membuat saya sangat kecewa, film ini disyuting dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris, maksudnya berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris / speaking English padahal aktor-aktornya orang Jerman semua, dan ini kan sejarah orang Jerman?? Saya tak mengerti mengapa harus dibikin seperti ini sehingga 'feel' ke-Jerman-annya tidak begitu terasa. Seribu sayang, I would not recommend this movie.

Kalau ada cinta segi empat, yang mana melibatkan 3 orang laki-laki dan 1 orang perempuan, terus kemudian satu laki-laki itu bersaudara kandung dengan satu perempuan tsb, bagimana menjelaskan cerita cinta seruwet ini??

Ceritanya mungkin biasa aja, dan akting Daniel Brühl (sebagai Paul Krantz) mungkin agak sedikit canggung walaupun begitu setting tahun 1920-an digarap dengan serius.

Dari awal tidak cerita tidak begitu bisa dimengerti, tapi adegan interograsi terhadap dua pasangan ini terlalu lama dan bertele-tele, walaupun dengan ending yang cukup 'suprising' tetap saja film ini pasti dinilai tidak terlalu menarik.

It's about an interrogation at 18th district in Paris. Five policemen have been assigned to catch a criminal couple. They are expected to have 10 million dollars of diamond from robbery. All in all, "Gangsters" is a thrilling action story and mercilessly revealing human weaknesses, and employing magnificent actors.
