Dalam Coco Avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel), Coco diperankan oleh aktris Prancis Audrey Tautou, berceritakan tentang awal mula Coco menjalani kerasnya kehidupan dari penyanyi kabaret dan kekasih Baron Balsan, yang membawanya ke kehidupan glamor kelas elit, sebelum akhirnya menjadi desainer. Bisa dianggap sebagai bio-drama yang biasa-biasa saja, walaupun karakter Coco dibawakan oleh Tautou secara manis.

Sedangkan film Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky mengupas perjalanan romantika Coco dengan Igor Stravinsky, komposer musik terkenal asal Rusia (cek di Wikipedia). Pertemuan pertama mereka ketika Igor menampilkan komposisi musik "The Rite of Spring" dengan tarian balet oleh koreografer Vaslav Nijinsky di tahun 1913.
Berapa tahun kemudian, ketika bertemua kembali Coco mengundang Igor bersama keluarganya (istri dan anak empat) yang mengungsi dari perang saudara di Rusia, untuk tinggal di villa-nya di luar Paris. Niatnya adalah memberikan tempat tinggal yang layak bagi keluarga Igor sementara Igor bisa menulis komposisi musiknya. Ketertarikan antara dua manusia ini muncul dan terjadilah secret affair--sesuatu yang ternyata berdampak pada karir mereka. Igor bisa menuliskan komposisi yang penuh 'passion', Coco mendapatkan parfum yang kemudian laris, Chanel No. 5. Toh, karena berasal dari budaya yang berbeda, affair ini tidak bertahan lama dan mereka kembali ke jalan masing2...

Daripada Tautou, saya lebih suka melihat Coco diperankan oleh Anna Mouglalis, terlihat lebih terlihat necis, berkelas, angkuh dan independen. Satu hal yang membuat saya tertarik adalah penampilan pertama/premiere The Rite of Spring (cek di Wikipedia), yang menimbulkan keributan di Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris. :)

Paris 1913. Coco Chanel is infatuated with the rich and handsome Boy Capel, but she is also compelled by her work. Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring is about to be performed. The revolutionary dissonances of Igor's work parallel Coco's radical ideas. She wants to democratize women's fashion; he wants to redefine musical taste. Coco attends the scandalous first performance of The Rite in a chic white dress. The music and ballet are criticized as too modern, too foreign. Coco is moved but Igor is inconsolable. Paris 1920, Coco is newly wealthy and successful but grief-stricken after Boy's death in a car crash. Igor, following the Russian Revolution is now a penniless refugee living in exile in Paris. Coco is introduced to Igor by Diaghilev, impresario of the Ballets Russes. The attraction between them is instant and electric. Coco invites Igor along with his wife - now sick with consumption - together with his four children and a menagerie of birds to stay at her new villa, Bel Respiro, in Garches.
